Be Afraid of…

Imagine if you were afraid or scared of what you might miss today or what you might not become instead of being scared of what may happen or what people may think of what you may do? Would that just change the way you see the world? Would that make a major difference in your life.

Be scared of what you might miss out on because you didn’t follow your heart. Be scared or afraid of what or who you currently are so you can move into who you really might be. Jim Rohn always says “don’t miss out on life”. I think we have become a society that has channels their fears in the wrong directions. We are afraid to become who we truly are. We should be afraid of what we already are!

Change is Easy

That statement sounds good and I was once a big promoter of it. I finally realized that change is a process and for some it takes more time than others. I used to use that statement because I was one of those people that had to deal with a lot of lows (defined by limited mines) in my life (which I created of course and didn’t take accountability over it) and when I reach more successful periods I would just tell my clients, friends and anyone who would listen to “Just Change” or ”Just do it”.

It is easy when we feel like our life is going well to be able to tell people to “just let go”, “just start”, “stop procrastinating”, etc. The challenge around that is there is a process and based on where someone is in this process they will either move forward or backward. Sometimes people need to take two steps back because they walked by a different path and now need to take that one.

I have found myself in some pretty challenging situations and yet I never panic. See, my beliefs are greater than this world and the limitations we put on ourselves. While I wrestle with the ideas of wealth, money, fame, power, compassion, influence and all those egotistical ideas, I find for me it comes down to detachment. I know people will tell me you can’t help others being broke (how humanistic of them). You can’t change the world without money. You can’t become successful unless you become rich…on and on it goes.

As I sit here writing this my ego is telling me that I need to get moving. That I need to do more so I can make more so I can help more. It seems we’ve interpreted all the great literature (or scripture) in the world to mean: you have to be successful at material gain in order to do good in this world. You see, money is a material thing. I know…some of you are going to start that egotistical talk about what I am saying because your ego can’t seem to let go of the idea that it is in control and you need this stuff.

I guess if you want to play on the human level only, then go for it. However, that is so limiting yet that, it seems, is where to start. That is why I say Change is a Process. You will always be tapped on the shoulder and asked to become more of who you truly are. I am not saying you shouldn’t enjoy the fruits of this world. What I am saying is, there is nothing in this material world that will ever fulfill you in ways that are so profound you could only then start to realize who you truly are and the change work that happens in the world because of it.

Until then, carry on and realize where you are as well as where other people are. Change, although is easy per se, is a process and it only looks easy because we only seem to look at those who are at that point to change. I seem to forget the challenges that go on inside me before, during and after the change process and that is when I start saying change is easy.

Again, don’t mistake this blog post as an admission that you shouldn’t go for materialistic dreams. I have many. It all starts with who you have to become and that is the process of changing who you are which will then change what you do and how you will do it.

“I touched the edge of existance to only realize it was the end of one story and the beginning of another!” ~Paul McGarry

Philosophy of Today

When I was sticking a needle in my arm I had determined focus to get what I wanted when I wanted. I stole, fought, manipulated and connived to get high just for today. Now, I know that is destructive behavior and I am no way suggesting that anyone participate in it.

I am just making a point about focus and determination. When getting high was on the line I would have sold my mother (yikes). Now that our goals and dreams are on the line we aren’t even willing to give it 5, 10 or 15 hours a week. We would rather work the 40 hours for 40 years DEAD plan and let the outside world (news media, losers, negative people – sometime family, etc.) disctate life to us.

Did you not know who you are and what you are capable of? Get to know me. I will introduce you to your better self!

Stayed tuned. I have to go so please leave a comment and start a revolution!

We Look Forward to Seeing You at

The Ultimate Networking Event!

If I slow down I go faster??? Right!

When you slow down to reflect on what it is you have to do and what it is that is really important, more things seem to get done. However, when you are constantly thinking that you have so much to do you end up working from a point of confusion and not much QUALITY work gets done. You may finish a lot of things but are they important and did you do your absolute best?

Slowing down helps you to put into perspective what is truly important and how to go about doing your absolute best in every situation. Being rushed by your own mind is a recipe for disaster down the road. You will never know that you are off course unless you slow down to read the signs!!!

It takes discipline to slow your mind down so you can think and be centered. Try meditating for 20 minutes a day and see the transformation expressed in your attitude and ultimately your life.

Peace

Time Management – The Killer for most people!

We all have the same amount of time each day, week and year. Why is it that some people accomplish a huge amount of stuff but others do not? Because they don’t manage their time!

I do an exercise during our monthly meetings about time management and it goes something like this:

Hours in a week

168

Hours in a Year

8,736

Sleep (8 hours/night)

(56)

Sleep (8 hours/night)

(2,920)

Work (50 hrs/ week)

(50)

Work (50 hrs/ week)

(2,600)

Total Left Over/week

62

Total Left Over/year

3,216

When I talk to people about changing their situation or lives they always say they don’t have enough time in the day. Now, I know most people don’t get 8 hours of sleep a night and/or work 50 hours a week but we use these numbers for a cushion and travel time to and from work.

So we go through this exercise to find out that people do have the extra time to do whatever they want. However, they are so caught up in the mundane drudgery of daily life they don’t see it. Some people see it but refuse to change it.

There are many reasons for this but the major one is: PEOPLE DO NOT PUT A VALUE ON THEIR TIME. Time is the most expensive thing you own! Once it is gone you can never get it back. Yet, people waste on average 6 hours a day watching TV, playing video games or surfing the internet (in a non-productive way).

I struggled with this myself. I would always complain that I am not going to become some robot that works on a schedule and tracks all of his time. My mentor at the time asked me a simple question: How much is your time worth? I said: what do you mean? He said: if you were going to charge your boss an hourly rate for your time, what would it be? How much is an hour with your family worth as opposed to your job?

What great questions and I had to figure out through personal development and study what I was worth per hour to anyone (my family, my boss, my acquaintances, my friends and so on). If the value of my time was worth more than what other people were putting on it, I had to change the people I was hanging around.

Eventually, I left my job because I realize the only way I could increase the value of my time was to take control of my time and utilize it to the best of my ability.

Think about this: everyone I think would agree that are time with our family is worth more than an hour at work. Yet most people complain that they have to work so much and don’t have any time to do anything, change anything or be home for the family. Instead of complaining, I urge you to do this exercise and start taking control of your time and freedom.

Also, I encourage you to start working on your time and start putting a value on it before your health makes you do it. By that I mean, most people don’t take time to stop and smell the roses until their bodies give out and they are forced to. You never hear on people’s death bed that they wish they had LESS time to do the things they always wanted to do (spend more time with family, travel, read, etc.)

Here is a good book that helped me get going in the right direction. NO BS Time Management by Dan Kennedy. This is a straight forward book. Take from it what you can and leave the rest.

You find hundreds of books on time management. This is the one I used when I got started. Here is the link to the book on amazon.com. NO BS TIME MANAGEMENT LINK or click here http://www.amazon.com/No-B-S-Time-Management-Entrepreneurs/dp/1932156852/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1249905421&sr=1-16

Till next time!

Details and Discipline…

We all hear about the importance of Goals. There is a tremendous amount of information on goals. How to write them; What to say to yourself; How to think; etc. Most programs seem to spend little time on the most important part of any program – THE DETAILS AND DISCIPLINE.

Let me show you how this relates to your goals and your “WHY” of doing what you want to do. You can have a huge “WHY” and that may motivate you and have you focusing on the amount of money you are going to make, or the new cars , houses, yachts you are going to buy, etc. However, most people have“HUGE WHY’s” and never succeed because all they do is day dream about what it would be like to have all the money and free time. What you need to do is take that HUGE “WHY” and break it down into your daily discipline of what you are going to do everyday to be successful. Let me give you a clear example of what I mean from both sides: Good and Bad.

I have friends in certain businesses who want to be at the top executive levels. We are talking about levels in companies that pay anywhere from $300,000 to millions of dollars plus stock options, etc. Then they write their goals in present form with proper wording, read them everyday, share them with mentor’s etc. and they are excited. Who could blame them. It all sounds awesome, doesn’t it?

Well, my question to them and you, who may have the same goals, is: What are you going to do ON A DAILY BASIS to get to your goal? Even if your goals weren’t as high as the numbers above; what are you going to do ON A DAILY BASIS to get there? Notice that these principles apply to every aspect of your life: Relationships, Happiness, Promotions in your job, friendships, etc. If you want the best in your life, What are you willing to contribute ON A DAILY BASIS to get there regardless of other people, circumstance or environment? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ON A DAILY BASIS???

Here is how most people fail when doing goals. They write down all these great feell good things about where they want to be and what it would feel like to have all that money, fame, fortune, etc. No one seems to write down the boring daya to day tasks that need to be done day in and day out.

See, what they don’t realize is the huge goals and dreams are targets. The daily details and discipline are like darts that you have to throw and throw until one day you hit that bulls-eye and continue to hit it over and over and over.

If you had a clear vision of where you are, where you wanted to go, what you are willing to committ, plan your daily exercises and a “HUGE WHY” to fuel the passion, your ability to achieve anything just became that much easier. Would it be easy? Well, yes! Easy is something you can do. It may not be fun but it is definitely easy because you have the ability to do it. Will you have to labor? Yes! There is no free ride in life. NONE!

I find that most people say they are serious about changing their lives, usually in the financial area, but then treat it like and afterthought and if they get around to it they will do it. THIS IS A PRESCRIPTION FOR FAILURE. You have to plan, participate and execute. It is much better than having the lame excuses about being too tired, my boss is a jerk, having my own business is too hard, etc. You have to work everyday no matter whether you have a job or are your own boss. The mindset you have in either situation is all up to you. The planning is all up to you.

Think about the time you tried to lose weight or get in shape. You start to work out, get sore, skip a day and before you know it you are fatter than the last time and you blame the program. What about when in school. You cram for a test the night before instead of planning a study schedule and blame the test when your grade isn’t what you thought it should be. How about when you are late for work and your boss calls you into the office and reprimands you for being late 3 times this month and you are in your head saying to yourself: This person is such a jerk. I was only 5 minutes late each time. Well, the fact is you were late. 1 minute or 1 hour is still late. This is the same person who will make fun of the person who comes in early and stays late but gets all the promotions. OR, complains that they aren’t getting any promotions and it must be because the other person who did get the promotion is a kiss ass. I could go on and on with examples of why you are not where you want to be and share stories of when I failed or how I was successful but I believe you get my point.

I am not trying to depress you or get on you if you happen to have had some of the experiences above. We all go through them. It is what you are going to do to change so they happen less often.

We all have challenges in life. I am here to tell you that if you work out a good program, roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, surround yourself with good people who will push you and keep your eye on the target while working the daily tasks, it is inevitable that you will succeed. It may take some time, lots of work but in the end you will be a better person and probably wealthier than you have ever been. The questions is: How long will you work until you reach that point? And, is quitting an option?

If you have the discipline to work on the details every day, think about what your life would be like. FOCUS is a skill that I suggest you learn. Writing goals is a skill that I suggest you learn. Discipline and details are what determine your success. Lack of Discipline and details are what determine your failure.

Until next time….
