Are you working in your business or on it?

Owning your own business can be a very freeing experience, if you take the right steps (we will get them in a minute). I am sure you have heard of the stories of people going into business for themselves only to work longer hours, make less money and seem increasingly unhappy. Their personal identities become defined as their business – whether successful or not.

Then their are those people who seem to have the magic touch. They go into business for themselves and puff they have all the clients, make all the sales, generate all the products and everything touch turns to gold. And those of us who struggle sit there scratching our heads in wonder.

Well, the difference between [Read more...]

Talk Is Cheap & Action Isn’t Everything

So many people get caught up in the Talk of other people and how great they are and what they help you do as long as you pay whatever they ask and they will tell you all there secrets. Let me just say that “Talk Is Cheap”.

I find it funny how we all get sucked in by the hype of peoples talk. The problem isn’t them per Se. The problem is we do not stick around long enough or hold off long enough before we make that impulse decision to see if what they are spewing is actually good for us. We never THINK about what is being said. WE just jump for the idea of becoming rich without any regard of our own ability to do it.

Then we get the ACTION part of the equation which no ones seems to look at. However, action isn’t everything. I know many people that got involved in real estate investing, online marketing, network marketing and did all these action steps just like the Talking people said to do. And, guess what happened??? Nothing….well except for the money they spent and the frustration and aggravation that followed.

Now, I am not saying that these marketing geniuses aren’t real or haven’t done what they said they did. The question I am raising is: Are you gonna do what you say you are going to do? And, do you have the right mindset to do it?

You see, if you took a half a minute and really sat down and thought about the next program you were going to buy (or business you were going to get into), the steps you were going to take (or not) to make it happen and planned out a time frame that you could actually accomplish something, you would cut years off your quest to reaching your dreams.

But, it is more than that. Here is the equation you need to make it all happen: Mindset + Talk + Action = Success or failure. Listen, this is critical. You can talk a great game to others but you better be talking a better game to yourself. You can get into action like no other but your mindset better be in the right place. If not, then disaster is just around the corner.

Now, I know there are people who jumped at a chance to start something and became very very successful. And, if you listen to then afterward they will tell you…no no they will show you that they were in sync (Right Mind + Right Talk + Right Action = Success). Also, you will find out that they more than likely went through struggles and situations in other programs (businesses) before everything came together and they hit it just right.

You don’t have to go through all of that. The problem is Everyone acts with emotion. An emotion so strong that at that very moment you think you can do anything (and at that moment you probably can). However, this emotion subsides and guess what….your left with the you before you got all hot and bothered. Yes, the you that has signed up for seventeen different programs before (all emotional saying you were gonna do this or that).

The time has come people to start taking your life seriously. You want to be an entrepreneur? Great start acting like one by slowing down and not acting on such strong emotional impulses just because some creative copy writer hit all your buttons and you bought it hook, line and sinker. I know I know….I bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff (you should see it..makes me laugh now).

So what do you do? Take those emotions and put them into action but first suppress them, sit down and figure out what you want to do, write out a plan of attack, research the best home-based business for you and then UNLEASH THE CRAZED EMOTIONAL YOU that will put in 12-15 hours a day trying to figure it all out. If you do it this way you will at least be following some sort of plan and not be all over the place. The other benefit is you won’t quit so easily because you will have a time frame built in, which you use to do what it takes to become successful.

Here is a tip: when you find yourself reading something (or if you are sitting up at night watching the infomercials) and grabbing for your wallet to pump in your credit card, stop and ask yourself these questions (Answer them honestly):

  1. Am I really going to do this?
  2. If I could start any home-based business, would this be it?
  3. When am I going to do this (what days, times during the day, etc.)?
  4. What skills would I have to learn to become successful?
  5. What time frame am I going to give myself to become successful (forever OR as much as I need is not a good answer – you need to structure it a bit)
  6. Is this something that I am going to enjoy doing or am I chasing money? (If you are just chasing money you will quit if success doesn’t come quickly – even then you will probably quit soon after to try something else)
  7. Who in this business that has had success can I follow as my mentor?
  8. How much money am I willing to put towards this business?

There are many more but I think you get the point. If you can ask, and answer,  those questions honestly and still be pumped about the opportunity, you just increased your chances of success 1,000%.

I could probably write another two pages on this but will end it here. If this helps you out or you like what you read and want to share, please leave a comment. Thanks much!
