Why Hire A Professional Life Coach?

Sometimes, we have a destination in mind, but we don’t know how to get there.  Sometimes, we think we know how to get to our destination, but we are taking the wrong route.  Or, sometimes we can start out on the correct route, but we do things to sabotage our journey.  Have any of these scenarios ever happened to you?  These scenarios can be the case whether you think of taking a cross-country trip, or in our figurative journey of life.

Actually, these scenarios can happen quite a lot.  When they occur, we need help.  Maybe we need efficient directions.  Maybe we need someone to help us draft up a plan, or a path to follow. Maybe we need encouragement to begin the journey, and stay on the journey when the road gets bumpy.  A Life Coach can help you do all of these things and more.
A Life Coach is someone who’s mission and goal is to help their clients gain success in their personal or professional endeavors.  Again, people might need a little nudge or push in the right direction.  It’s hard to find people in our everyday life that have the time or energy to meet with you, and help you help yourself.  The average person could certainly benefit from a person who is figurative on the outside, looking in.

A Life Coach is a professional that you’d want to hire, first because they aren’t emotionally blinded by your issues.  What this means is that often times, we are too close to our issues or fears to make sound or progressive decisions. A Life Coach can see your “blind spots”.  While they care, they aren’t going to be sentimental with any issues or relationships that are defeating or negative.
A Life Coach isn’t going to allow you to get stuck in your past.  Your life coaching sessions won’t be about how you didn’t get enough hugs as a child.  It won’t be about performing exercises that help you overcome your depression, anxieties, or any mental issues.  A Life Coach certainly won’t let you get stuck in the “blame game”.  That’s not what a Life Coach is there for, and those types of attitudes are counterproductive to what life coaching is about.  A Life Coach wants to get you propelled and motivated to move forward. Life Coaching isn’t about the things that are impossible to go back and change. Life Coaching is all about creating the future you want, starting today.
The great thing about this is that the client doesn’t have to waste valuable time, energy, or money talking about issues that keep them stuck in the past.  A Life Coach works with their client to discuss goals and plans.  Many people think that they have goals if they come to realizations, or conceptualize things in their minds.  Conceptualizing is certainly a good start, but that’s only a start.  Another word for conceptualizing is dreaming.  A Life Coach walks their clients from the dream stage to the goal and planning stages.  In order for dreams to keep true, the client needs to set goals.  The Life Coach helps their client to set realistic, achievable goals.  In this way, the client can stop sabotaging their efforts in life being unrealistic, or not setting goals at all.
After goals are set, the Life Coach then works with their clients to make plans to support their goals.  This stage involves the day-to-day things that a client does to make their goals happen.  The thing to note about all of this is that the Life Coach doesn’t do any hand holding or coddling.  This defeats the purpose of the sessions.  The purpose of a Life Coaching session is to make the client feel empowered.  The client should feel like they are confident, and capable.

Another reason that a potential client should hire a professional Life Coach is because the client can develop a sense of personal discipline, and pride.  There’s nothing like investing in someone to hold us accountable and empower us to take action.  It’s so easy to make excuses as to why life isn’t working out, goals aren’t being set and accomplished, or why a person can stay stagnated in ignorance.  A professional Life Coach is someone who helps their clients have breakthroughs.  A Life Coach cares enough about their clients to not allow the client to stagnate.  Life coaching is all about progression, moving forward, change and growth.

Life coaching requires that the client has some level of personal integrity, strength, and endurance. A life coaching client in short needs to be a person who is ready to do the work involved.  Again, a Life Coach isn’t there to do the work for you.  They aren’t going to coerce you into your growth.  They aren’t mental or emotional health professionals.  A Life Coach can only do just that, coach you.

Your Life Coach will be both your cheerleading section, and your locker room coach.  They will go over strategies that help you both in business, and in life.  They will impart wisdom and knowledge that has worked for them, and that they hope will work for you.  They will give you pats on the back, but not on your head.  They will constantly remind you that you can do whatever it is that you’re endeavoring in.  But again, you have to be ready to endeavor.

One thing to note is that not all great Life Coaches need certification.  There are many people who are certified, but might not be a good Life Coach or they might not be that person that meets your unique needs. 2. Paul,
Really enjoyed your post today. Great information. I know that many people really have no idea what a Life Coach is and you spell it out for them. We think everyone at some point could and would benefit from having a Life Coach. As you say it isn’t someone to hold your hand however it is someone that can move you through your dreams and help you put steps in place to accomplish your goals reaching to your dream. Some actually many people have a block they can’t push through, could be based on many things, usually fear based in some aspect and a mentor/life coach can help you empower yourself and ultimately help in learning to believe in yourself, step by step and open your doors in all aspects of your life. Thank you for sharing and look forward to learning more. Thank you thank you thank you.

  3. Thanks Paul for explaining what a Life Coach does and how someone can benefit by having one. Having someone in your corner keeping you on track and helping you over the humps is just what is needed in many cases.

Great article Paul! I think that everyone needs a life coach, whether they are in business or not. As for the business people, they definitely need to invest in a coach who will help them out on the way to success. There are so many obstacles one can encounter when running and building a business. And a life coach would play an invaluable role in order to get them there.

I have seen the value of a professional coach in my life over the past few months. It has been amazing. I had not worked with one in over 5 years and through the transitions in my life in the past 4 months, it has been amazing to have them on board with me.

  7. Great explanation of a Life Coach Paul. There is a ton of people out there calling themselves coaches now and a person really has to do their homework to find a good coach. I believe a coach can be beneficial for people. Like you mention a coach isn’t emotionally attached to the clients issues and can think and make improvements on a different level.
From watching and reading your posts I can tell you know your business and you truly care about others.

    thanks for sharing
